The IEC Method is designed to provide a structured framework that ensures a consistent experience for our members while allowing instructors to incorporate their own approaches and expertise. Our choirs are led by a team of instructors, making it essential to standardize key elements such as phrasing, conducting gestures, rehearsal structure, and technical vocabulary. Additionally, instructors must be familiar with the role of choral representative committees, our code of conduct and the available resources for addressing any issues that may arise.
Requirements
Near-native level of English
Confidence in leading a group of 60 adults in an engaging and enjoyable rehearsal
Ability to teach basic vocal technique through demonstration
Skill in teaching all parts by ear
Patience and understanding to prioritize the member experience over musical perfection

Yes! The majority of our instructors have never led a choir before, but feel confident to do so after our short training program.

We’re looking for instructors with a music degree, who feel confident in teaching singing fundamentals to a choir of 60 singers. You should be able to teach simple pop harmonies to amateur singers with clarity and enthusiasm. A patient, sociable personality is key to leading our community-focused choirs.

IEC is seeking pianists to accompany our community-based choirs. This flexible role is ideal for musicians balancing professional commitments or talented hobbyists looking to apply their skills in a meaningful way.

IEC choirs are community-based rather than performance-driven. Pianists accompany non-audition choirs, where most music is taught by ear. Each choir is supported by a team of pianists, providing flexibility for accompanists to choose their preferred schedule.

Ability to understand instructions and scheduling in English
Ability to collaborate with instructors and prioritize fun over perfection
The ability to play simple pop piano accompaniments
Ability to play 2 vocal parts at the same time
